Dear Safety Directors,

Subject: Regional Meeting

First of all congratulations on becoming your clubs Safety Director but with that title comes much responsibility and we working as a Team can accomplish the task of making our Drivers the Safest in QMA. I can promise you this that I will support you in any manner you deem necessary. I plan to continue the same progress Jeff Fisher has made and want to work to make the Region even better when it comes to Safety. I know its January and its cold and the idea of racing is maybe the furthest from your mind or like me that’s all I’m thinking about but we need to get prepared for the 2007 Season. Check to make sure you have the required paperwork like the Insurance claims and supplement Safety reports for injuries that may occur. Check you’re Fire Extinguishers and have them inspected plus filled with the proper extinguishing agent prior to opening day. Also, it is required that the track permanently post the phone numbers and addresses of the nearest Emergency Agency (police, fire, medical) this should be posted in numerous locations around the track. Check you’re First Aid Kit and if your track doesn’t have one maybe a simple First Aid Kit could be purchased. I will keep you informed of other safety items that may need to be addressed before the upcoming race season. Some of the Safety issues mentioned in the Regional Meeting on January the 6th were as follows:
  • Safety Tags for inspections will be used again this year
  • Safety Sheets will be used again this year provided by Karen Adams
  • Sign In and Safety will be Friday from 6:00pm-8:00pm and 7:30-8:30 on Saturday
  • Safety for Regional’s can be done by the Regional Safety Director prior to the First Regional (March Madness, Spring Indoors etc…)
  • QMA ID Tags must be worn in the Hot Chute
  • Spot Safety Checks will be done at Regional’s at the end of Heat Races and or Features (Remember a Safety infraction can be a DQ) Safety is as important if not more then a Technical Inspection!
  • Check the Children’s helmet for fit! Make sure it fits properly
  • If not racing until after the national meeting in February wait until then to purchase Safety Belts (rumors of changes to the 2 year expiration date at the national meeting MAYBE JUST A RUMOR)

As you can see we will be moving forward with the progress that Jeff Fisher and the previous Safety Directors had made. Enclosed are some of the National Safety Issues that must be addressed prior to the start of the Racing Season. I look forward in working will all of you this coming year and hope that if you have any questions and or comments feel free in contacting me at anytime. Be Safe and keep Your Membership informed of the Safety Issues!

Sincerely yours,
Darrick C. Scott
